Christmas starts early in Canberra, with Queensland Ballet bringing Ben Stevenson’s much-loved production of The Nutcracker to town this November.
At midnight on Christmas Eve, little Clara begins a magical journey into a wondrous world where toys come to life, King Rat and his giant mice, delicate dancing snowflakes and the beautiful Sugar Plum Fairy, who reigns over the Kingdom of Sweets.
With its gorgeous sets, costumes and stunning dance, combined with Tchaikovsky’s evocative music, The Nutcracker is truly a festive treat for the whole family.
To celebrate Queensland Ballet’s tour to the national capital, we are offering a variety of ways to experience our wonderful world of ballet, both on and off the stage.
Local children are invited to audition to perform in The Nutcracker, as well as taking part in a fun four-day Dance Camp in the lead up to this highly anticipated season.
We will also be presenting in-school workshops and a special Masterclass for advanced ballet students. For fascinating insights into the production, audience members can participate in pre and post performance Q&A sessions with Queensland Ballet dancers.
POST-SHOW Q&A
