2016

The Light Fantastic.

This Season shimmers with stardust, as we share ballets that enchant with the glamour of a golden age.

There is something magical about ballet. It transforms a stage into a different world, a place where stories are told without words and people fly without wings. In 2016 we will sweep you back in time, to an era of elegance that will seduce and delight.

Shakespeare is re-imagined in A Midsummer Night’s Dream from acclaimed choreographer Liam Scarlett. This captivating and bewitching ballet, which begins our season, will bring the magical woods and vivid characters to life.

All that glitters is Gershwin as we present a spectacular tribute to the songs of the big band era.  Derek Deane’s Strictly Gershwin is a high-energy ballet that also weaves ballroom dancing, singing and jazz into the show. This is Queensland Ballet as you’ve never seen us, and I urge you not to miss out.

Lest we Forget is a more intimate affair and draws on the power of dance to reflect upon the heart ache of war. Paul Taylor’s much-loved Company B will be presented as well as two new works from extraordinary choreographers Ma Cong and Natalie Weir.

The Out of the Box Festival returns in 2016 and we are ready to join in the fun with a very special interpretation of Little Red Riding Hood. Feisty and cheeky, Little Red is choreographed by Lucas Jervies and will launch our My First Ballet series.

Ben Stevenson’s The Nutcracker will return in 2016 for another delightful Christmas season. With regular sold-out performances, having season tickets will ensure your family won’t miss this festive favourite. Those purchasing a season ticket have the option of adding Dance Dialogues, our extremely popular showcase of new works.
