Marvel in the magic of storytelling!
To celebrate Book Week, Queensland Ballet visited kindergartens and childcare centres across Brisbane to share the wonder of storytelling and movement, through delightful play-based workshops as part of the 2018 Premier’s Reading Challenge.
By bringing to life stories from the Premier’s Reading Challenge early childhood book list, these carefully crafted, interactive workshops ignited imaginations while inspiring a passion for reading and dance in two to five year old's.
Each visit included a 30-minute story-themed class modelled on our popular Tiny Dancers program, developed to stimulate creativity and confidence in children under five years. Delivered in partnership with the Department of Education.
Book Week 2018 Workshops were based on the following books from the Premier’s Reading Challenge Early Childhood book list:
Dreamers (by Ezekiel Kwaymullina, ill. Sally Morgan)
Nellie Belle (by Mem Fox, ill. Mike Austin)
Those Pesky Rabbits (by Ciara Flood)
Dates and selected books for 2019 Book Week workshops are yet to be announced. Kindergartens can book a Ballet Moves workshop with QB at any time. Click here for further information.
WHAT IS THE PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE?
The Premier's Reading Challenge is an annual statewide initiative for state and non-state schools and home-educated students up to Year 9, as well as children (aged up to five years) enrolled in an early childhood centre, and individual home readers.
The Premier's Reading Challenge is not a competition but aims to improve literacy and encourage children to engage in reading for pleasure and learning.
