Greg Horsman —

Chief Ballet Master and Director of Artistic Operations

Greg began his early ballet training with Peter Dickinson in Geelong, and from the age of 15 he trained with Anne Woolliams at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School in Melbourne. He joined The Australian Ballet in 1982, rising to the rank of Principal Artist in 1987.

During the 12 years he danced with the company, Greg performed in all of the classical repertoire, as well as many contemporary works, working with some of the finest choreographers at that time, including Kenneth MacMillan, Glen Tetley, Maurice Béjart and Jirí Kylián. He has been a guest Principal Artist with the Kirov Ballet, the Royal Danish Ballet, Boston Ballet, Houston Ballet, The Tokyo Ballet and the Badisches Staatstheater Ballett in Germany. He also appeared on Rudolph Nureyev's Farewell Tour of Australia and in the 6^th and 7^th World Ballet Festivals in Japan.

Greg left The Australian Ballet in 1994 to join English National Ballet (ENB) and created the roles of The Mad Hatter in Derek Deane's Alice in Wonderland, the Prince in Michael Corder's Cinderella and Drosselmeyer in Deane's The Nutcracker. He also starred in Deane's spectacular productions of Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet at the Royal Albert Hall. During his time with ENB he also performed the roles of Romeo and Mercutio in Rudolph Nureyev's production of Romeo and Juliet.

In 1998 Greg was appointed Artistic Director of Ballet Central at London’s Central School of Ballet. In 2001 he was invited to be Ballet Master at Northern Ballet Theatre in Leeds, and in 2003 returned to ENB as Ballet Master and repetiteur. In 2006 Greg became Ballet Master at the Royal New Zealand Ballet. He has been a guest teacher at many companies throughout Europe and Australia, including a recent appointment as Guest Ballet Master with Scottish Ballet.

Greg has choreographed ballets for Ballet Central, English National Ballet and the Royal New Zealand Ballet (RNZB). His classic production of The Sleeping Beauty for RNZB in 2011 won critical acclaim and was a box office success, and his dazzling short work, Verdi Variations, was performed as part of Queensland Ballet’s Elegance season in August 2013.

Greg joined Queensland Ballet as Ballet Master in January 2013.
